In-house incinerator refractory services powered by Global Services
OEM quality. Global reach. One team.
When a Hyundai-Atlas MAXI 1500SL WS incinerator onboard a vessel in Singapore showed signs of severe refractory degradation, it wasn’t just a maintenance issue – it was a risk to both performance and compliance.
At Atlas Incinerators, we are known for supplying some of the strongest and most durable refractory materials on the market. However, even the best refractory materials wear out over time. High thermal stress, continuous operation, and exposure to aggressive waste types will inevitably require professional inspection, service, and renewal.
That’s why refractory service must be carried out by Atlas or one of our authorised partners. We’ve seen how third-party attempts often result in poor curing, premature wear, and reduced system efficiency.
Thanks to our authorised service partner, Global Boiler Services, the entire refractory was successfully renewed, and the incinerator was restored to full operational condition.

The challenge
Critical cracks in the refractory walls, worn anchors, and degraded insulation threatened:
• Combustion efficiency
• Structural integrity
• MARPOL Annex VI compliance

The solution
Our authorised service partner, Global Boiler Service, has conducted a full refractory renewal with:
- Removal of all damaged refractory materials from the primary and secondary chambers, including partition and sluice walls.
- Repair of structural cracks by welding reinforced double plates at vulnerable corners.
- Replacement of worn anchors and installation of new high-grade insulation.
- Fabrication and installation of new steel plates to strengthen the mixing chamber and door frames.
- Application of new heat-resistant refractory throughout all chambers, doors, and the combustion floor, including precise formwork and controlled curing.
- Cutting of expansion joints to protect against future thermal stress.
Every step followed OEM procedures and materials – because only certified solutions guarantee performance.

The result
The incinerator was fully restored, with all chambers re-lined and reinforced for optimal performance. This ensures:
• Extended incinerator lifetime – no need for full replacement
• Full IMO compliance
• Improved combustion performance
• Reduced off-hire risk
This is a perfect example of how Atlas now delivers refractory services in-house, by combining our incinerator expertise with the field capabilities of Global Boiler Services.
