The X10 Titan: A game changer for shipowners and shipyards

Our New X10 TITAN range will save ship owners and shipyards money whilst reducing their environmental footprint.

For decades, it has been customary to use steam, electricity or thermal oil to heat sludge before. With Atlas Incinerator’s new X10 Titan range, launched with the new X610 Titan, such procedures are behind us.

While there are many significant improvements in the X10 Titan’s combustion specifications, the real headline is that sludge oil no longer needs to be heated prior to incineration. The new X10 Titan range has been designed to incinerate sludge oil and simultaneously burn solid waste. At Atlas, we produce only the highest quality of products, and now we can proudly say we also provide a way to consume the absolute minimum of energy whilst incinerating.

This is only the start of how the X10 Titan can offer significant savings for both shipyards and shipowners alike.

“We’ve simplified and streamlined the entire incineration process. Several of the operations that occur in conventional incinerators have been eliminated altogether from the X10 Titan series.”

– Lars M. Lund-Jacobsen, General Manager of Sales at Atlas Incinerators.

In conventional incinerators, the incineration process has several stages. First, oil sludge and water are pumped from the vessel’s storage tank into a settling tank, which heats the content and lets it settle to separate the oil and water. The water is then drained and the sludge is pumped into a sludge tank, which is heated before pumping the oil sludge into the incinerator.

Atlas Incinerators have reimagined this process to be vastly simplified. First, the oil sludge and water are pumped from the storage tank into the X10’s sludge oil mixing tank. Then, the incinerator starts up and the contents are pumped into the incinerator.

The X10 Titan’s combi oil burner that Atlas has developed makes it possible to have one burner, instead of the conventional separate sludge and diesel oil burners.

“What makes the X10 Titan unique is that sludge oil is pumped directly from the sludge oil mixing tank to the oil burner without having to heat the sludge oil first. That means there’s no need to use extra energy in heating the system.”

– Lars M. Lund-Jacobsen, General Manager of Sales at Atlas Incinerators.

This translates into a process that reduces costs for shipyards and shipowners alike. No longer needing heating elements or a control system, nor several meters worth of piping, or regulators of ball valves in the case of steam. Equipment and time costs drop exponentially because instillations of an X10 Titan is much simpler.

“Fewer components are required, so the incinerator costs less. This also means savings on maintenance costs, not to mention the space freed up from the equipment and spare parts, which can be used to increase the payload.”

Paw Houmann-Poulsen, Area Sales Manager at Atlas Incinerators.

On top of reducing time costs, equipment costs, installation complications and energy usage, the X10 Titan has become the most eco-friendly incinerator on the market for ships.

The X10 doesn’t need the sludge oil to be heated, and therefore the auxiliary engines emit less carbon and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This is a positive contribution to decarbonisation and helps our clients shrink their environmental footprint.

The control system on the X10 Titan has been upgraded to offer the latest in HMI technology. The specifications of the X610, the first in the X10 Titan line, offer significant improvements compared with the previous Atlas 600. The X610 has also successfully obtained the MED-type approval certificate issues by DNV GL.
